Forestry and Fire Mitigation Committee

Bent Tree Fire Mitigation

As several huge fires taught us, wildfire is a come-as-you-are disaster.  Mitigation both reduces your risk and enables firefighters to do their jobs.  So, how to protect your home and Bent Tree?

Please read our Mitigation Handout and Fire Mitigation Information to learn more about best fire mitigation practices, helpful links, and additional contact information.

For your information, Scott Ridings is the Accreditation Manager for the Monument Fire Department.  Scott can be reached at sridings@monumentfire.org or 719-484-0911.

Community Chipping Program

The Monument Fire Community Chipping Program is helping residents and property owners create defensible space by providing free chipping of branches, logs, and small trees. If you clear woody vegetation from around your home and stack it in a slash pile, we’ll chip it at no cost. The wood chips will remain on the property, and we will not remove them. The program encourages residents to comply with defensible space recommendations of Colorado State Forest Service and Firewise. The program is not intended for commercial activities or general land clearing.
